Dallas World Aquarium has many beautiful animals that will keep your attention on a hot afternoon. I have written about the Aquarium before but it is such a fun place and they offer many educational “moments” for the kiddos that I just have to write about the place again:)

There are several restaurants within the Aquarium or there are restaurants near the facility.

Performances by the popular Mayan Performance Troupe are at 11:15 am, 12:00 pm, 12:45 pm, 1:30 pm, 2:15 pm, 3:00 pm and 3:45 pm on Saturday and Sunday. During the busy summer months and on holidays, the scheduled performances are replaced with the troupe strolling both inside and outside the facility for better crowd control and to allow for more visitors to see them up close.

New Hours (effective March 1 through August 31):

The Dallas World Aquarium is open from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm daily (closed Thanksgiving & Christmas)

I am so glad to find out that someone else in the DFW area has been wanting the Greek flavor to meet the Cowboy grit.  Terra Mediterranean Grill has been open since the end of February but it is still new every time you take a bite.  Hummus is the word and Pita is the next one. The smell of Feta and grape leaves makes me want to do the grapevine. On the weekends, crowds spill out onto the patio area and admire the view up and down Crockett Street in Fort Worth. Come check it out and be prepared to sip and chow.

To say that it taste’s like your southern grandma cooked it is too simplistic. It would be easier to say that it taste’s like your southern grandma and ten culinary art chefs cooked it. It is that good and well worth the wait. We actually had somewhere to go to so we just walked right up to the register and ordered two chicken dinners to go. It took all of about 15 minutes and in that time we walked across the street and got an ice cold bottle of Dublin Dr. Pepper and a bottle of Root Beer. We were in Mayberry Heaven.

After we left Babe’s we were heading out towards Alliance Airport and I looked over at Cabela’s and saw a car show sign. Well that was it. Jeff turned in and after we ate some Babe’s Chicken at a picnic table on the lake we headed over to see what cars where being shown. I am so glad we did.

I am fairly partial to Mustangs and corvettes and they had plenty of both at the car show.

Between the chicken and the cars–I was having a blast. I had no idea that I would like such an event and such wonderful, fried food.

This was quite cute !

The kids were having a blast at this place.  And the non-adult kids were having fun too.

There is always something going on in DFW.

In my previous post I mentioned how we started out with the thought in mind of going to the Twisted Root Burger Co for exotic hamburgers but walked into Koto’s at  Eastside  in Richardson, Texas. Well, Jeff and I took Jason and his girlfriend back to the Twisted Root but we stopped in at Kotos first–again! Jason ended up picking up a cooked eel sashimi  for under $3.00. Jason devoured it.   Great place and great prices!

So we made our way across the fountain area and into Twisted Root Burger Co. It took us a while to make a decision over what we wanted to eat because the menu has a lot to offer. Oh, did I mention the menu is written on butcher paper ad stuck up on the wall? It is loads of fun to look over but we had to let someone pass us in line cause we were newbies.

I ordered the Black Bean Veggie burger and everyone ordered Bison and Venison combo burgers (they did not have elk or alligator that day). We also ordered a fried basket that had fried yam chips, pickles, curly fries, and onion rings. The fried basket was a hit and pretty much cleared it. As a matter of fact–everything was great and we pretty much cleared it.

While we waited for our burger order Jason ate his sushi from Koto’s.

Okay, so I am impressed with the cute tabletops embedded with bottle caps!

So Twisted Root Burger Co may be the burger place that starts my summer burger blog. Man, I am going to have to pick up my running and P90X routines to enjoy that blog :0  It is so worth it!

After you visit Kotos Japanese and Asian Fusion and Twisted Root Burger Co be sure to check out some of the activities in the Richardson area.  Richardson is hosting the Arts and Music Festival May 14-16, 2010.  Some of the music acts that will be there are:

The B-52s, Vince Neil of Mötley Crüe, 38 Special, Candlebox, Los Lonely Boys, Carolina Liar, Toad The Wet Sprocket, Bowling For Soup, Mute Math, Sweet, Cowboy Mouth, Delbert McClinton, Rio Grand, Slaid CLeaves, The Laws, Eliza Gilkyson, Le Freak, Frontiers – The Journey Tribute Band, and Hard Night’s Day.

So Jeff gets here and by this time the owner is telling us about all the specials that they have and before we knew it we were seated at a cozy table for two and ordering  Miso Soup (very good I might add).  Jeff is not a Sushi eater and I barely tolerate any seafood (with the exception of the Rock Shrimp) so Jeff ordered the Chilean Sea Bass Hot App and then we ordered the Tangy Crispy Chicken with Tangy Orange Sauce. OH, Man! Jeff devoured the Chilean Sea Bass and kept exclaiming that it was some of  the best Chilean Sea Bass that he has ever had and the price was only $12.95 on the day we ordered. The Tangy Chicken came out and it just kept getting better and better in my book. This is definitely a place to try for lunch as the prices are very low for the quality of food. We are going back to try the hamburgers at Twisted Root, maybe tomorrow, but Koto’s was well worth the stop.

Koto’s offers a full sushi bar as well. Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s they have sushi specials so drop in and check them out.

The Village at Camp Bowie is just off the main path but  has quite a few salons, stores, and places to grab a bite to eat.

Ridgelea Theater is located on Camp Bowie and on the weekends this place is usually packed.

Before you leave Camp Bowie check out Curley’s Frozen Custard Stand. They have great frozen custard with dozen’s of  flavors to mix and match. Their chili dogs aren’t too bad either I have had my share of them.

Well Fort Worth gets NASCAR this weekend and Jeff and I have VIP passes and excellent seats.

I have actually never been to a race before but when I lived near Bristol, Tennessee for two years I could hear the race track events from my house and Richard Petty was a name to be whispered in awe. So off we go to the races this weekend with Peter Frampton as the pre-race show. Wow! I will be drawn back into my youth and teen years, all in one weekend, at one place.

There will be some activities set up for kids and there will be State Fair “Fried” food concession this weekend. I am looking for the fried butter that I tried at the TX State Fair this past year. Talk about mouth-watering! Hope you can make it out. Be sure to bring your camera, as the wildflowers are beginning to bloom and they are pretty!

UPDATE ON NASCAR … It was rained out over the weekend but Jeff and I still were able to enjoy our Pit Passes and we even took a respectful snap of one the drivers…..

Even though NASCAR was rained out for us over the weekend, we still enjoyed the pits and all the activities around the outside of the Texas Motor Speedway.

This last week, all the trees were beginning to bloom, and I was lov’n being outdoors!  If you follow the path of the creek, you will find some interesting creatures that live at Watters-Creek.

My favorite animal is Mr. Piggy and he will keep you company when you are sitting outdoors ( in the cooler season) in front of a mega-fireplace.   So cute!

Did I forget to mention that there is shopping too! When you get hungry, after visiting with all the “animals” you will find plenty to eat at Watters-Creek.
